Our Senior Management Team

Jim Ransom, Chief Executive Officer
Jim has over 10 years experience in the healthcare industry. His focus has been primarily in inpatient rehabilitation, ambulatory surgery, diagnostic imaging and outpatient therapy. Mr. Ransom has held various positions including Director of Operations, Regional Controller, Division Chief Financial Officer and most recently Chief Financial Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer for HealthSouth. His expertise is in turn-around financial management, expense management and financial improvement. Mr. Ransom has a bachelor degree in Accounting from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama and is an associate of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Larry Rice, Director of Business Development-North Texas
Larry has 13 years of healthcare experience. He has marketed the Dallas area for the past 11 years.  Larry has a bachelor’s degree in nursing. He is fortunate to have marketed in a variety of healthcare settings but most of his experience is in the acute rehabilitation hospital arena.  He has served as Director of Marketing for a major rehabilitation provider in the area and has significant experience working with physicians and hospital personnel in the Dallas Metro. Larry is responsible for directing the team of healthcare professionals who do the preadmission assessments for Reliant Rehabilitation Hospital North Texas. He also oversees the admission department at Reliant. This team of Reliant Professionals liaison between the hospital, doctor’s office and the home to get people admitted to Reliant for the rehabilitation they need after disease or illness.

Michael G. Merrick, RN, BSN, Regional Nursing Officer/ Reliant Hospital Partners
Mike has over 25 years of experience in nursing. Most recently, Mike was the Director of Patient Care Services at HealthSouth-Plano. Mike held various positions with Medical City Dallas Hospital including Critical Care Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager-Stem Cell/Cord Blood Transplant Unit, Director of Oncology Services and Critical Care Nurse Educator. A former recipient of the Great 100 Nurses award from the Texas Nurses Association in 2001, Mike takes pride in delivering top quality patient care.

Tammy T. Justus, MS CCC/SLP, Chief Therapy Officer
Tammy received a Bachelors of Science degree from Baylor University and a Masters of Science from Texas Christian University. She is a licensed Speech Language Pathologist with experience in acute care hospitals, inpatient and outpatient settings, home health, public school system, long term acute care hospitals and skilled nursing. Mrs. Justus has 14 years of healthcare managerial experience and has demonstrated her commitment to the healthcare industry serving as a consultant for companies through start-up, survival, turnaround and growth. Tammy has served as President of the Dallas Association for Speech Pathology, Multimedia speaker on healthcare issues for a Distance Learning Organization, Director of Quality Control, and Supervisor for Clinical Fellows. She is currently a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association and holds a current Clinical Competency Certification.

Patricia Weigel, Chief Financial Officer-North Texas/Vice President Financial Services-Reliant Hospital Partners
Patricia has 31 years of healthcare experience. Most recently, Patricia spent the last 5 years as Chief Financial Officer of a HealthSouth hospital overseeing the business office, admissions, IT, HIM, and financial operations. Under her financial leadership, the facility maintained one of the highest performing financial and business office operations in the company. Mrs. Weigel also spent 6 years with Richardson Regional Medical Center as a Practice Administrator for their urgent care center, physician practices, and Senior Health Care facility.

April Maldonado, Director of Human Resources/Vice-President, Human Resources-Reliant Hospital Partners
April has 11 years experience in the healthcare industry. April has held various positions in the Human Resources field with such well known organizations such as HealthSouth, Tenet, and Health Management Associates. Her areas of responsibility include human resource management services, organizational development, civil rights, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, workers compensation, training and career development, and employee programs. 

Johnny Donnell, Director of Support Services-North Texas/Vice President, Support Services-Reliant Hospital Partners
With over 25 years experience in the healthcare industry, Johnny has held positions such as Director of Engineering for American Medical International (AMI) and Director of Integrated Services for Texas Health Resources (THR). He has an extensive background in new-project leadership and management, having successfully overseen both new and expanded construction for a large acute care facilities. For the past seven years, Johnny was a member of the executive team of HealthSouth Dallas where he was Director of Plant Operations and the hospital Safety Officer. A former sergeant in the US Army, Johnny worked four years as an electrical apprentice and successfully completed "Design for Development", a two-year hospital engineering course with Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI).

Pam Smith, RN, Director of Quality / Risk
With over thirteen years experience in nursing, Pam always strives to “Make a difference in the lives we affect”.  Coming to Reliant as House Supervisor and then assuming the position of Nurse Manager, she brings a depth of patient care insight to her role as Director of Quality /Risk Management.

Prior to joining Reliant she held various management positions at Dallas Regional Hospital, including Clinical Coordinator of Day Surgery, PACU, and Endoscopy Lab, Float Pool Medical/Surgical Clinical Educator, Assistant Director and Director of Surgical Services, and Director of PCU.
